Cosan Açúcar e Álcool

Cosan is a leading sugar and ethanol producer, trader and exporter, as well as the largest global sugarcane-bagasse-based electric energy generator.

With a crushing capacity of 60 million tons of sugarcane for the 2009/2010 harvest, the company has a market share of approximately 10% in Brazil.

Operations with sugar and ethanol are carried out in 23 mills, four refineries and two port terminals, one being for sugar and the other for ethanol – a fully integrated operation from beginning to end.

For the time being, the company’s operations are focused in the State of São Paulo. As of 2009, the operations in the units in Jataí and Caarapó, respectively in Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul, will begin.

In order to assure control of all the processes and plan long term action, Cosan harvests and processes sugarcane on an integrated basis.

The company has recently started operating in two additional businesses – the acquisition of agricultural land, and fuel distribution – with a presence throughout the sugar-energy chain, thus becoming the first fully-integrated renewable energy producer.
