Electric Energy

Electric Energy co-generation

The bagasse from sugarcane crushing is used as a fuel in steam production boilers. This biomass has great potential to complement the need for electric energy generation in Brazil.

The increase in electric energy consumption in recent years is reflected in Cosan’s growth.

The Company consumed 100,000 MWh in 1998, a figure which jumped to around 524,000 MWh in 2008.

Electric Energy Trading

In addition to meeting Cosan’s needs, electric energy co-generated by the company is also traded on the domestic electric energy market.

In 2008 Cosan’s electric energy sales exceeded 125,000 MW/h, which represents a new source of income for the company, with the capacity for further expansion.
