Fundação COSAN (Foundation) With investments in the social area, COSAN encourages the self-sustained communities, where families, youngsters and children are able to develop themselves, to be prepared to the labor market and to the environment needs. Fundação COSAN directly benefits more than 600 children and teenagers. Its traveling educational projects, such as “Saber para Crescer” (knowledge to grow) and “Pensar e Agir” (think and act) are provided to nearly 61 thousand people of communities where COSAN operates. In Piracicaba, the Fundação COSAN provides the children of employees and community members, aged between 10 and 16, with socio-educational-related services and activities, as well as technical courses. The success of the project and the Company’s commitment has been enabling to broaden the benefits: when they complete 16 years of age, youngsters are able to initiate their professional life at COSAN, by participating in the Minor Apprentice Program. Within the concept of education and technical training, the Da Barra center has rerouted its social activities in order to standardize its vocational focus. As of 2007, therefore, the center began concentrating its efforts on youngsters aged between 10 and 16 resident in Barra Bonita and Igaraçu do Tietê. Currently, this center provides 100 students with courses in computer technology, market gardening, basic electricity, citizenship, environmental education and music, as well as complementary scholastic activities. In adittion to redefining the focus of the Company’s social actions, the aim of the change is to ensure that Fundação activities are professionally run, with the establishment of procedures, norms, concepts and quality standards for our projects. In the district of Potunduva, in the city of Jaú, a partnership between Fundação COSAN and the local government of Jaú enabled to develop a project assisting children between 4 months and 7 years of age. Such Children Education Center is a model and an educational benchmark in the city of Jaú. In 2007, the Diamante center expanded its sphere of action to include another 80 children aged between 7 and 10 during the school holidays. The idea is to transform this center into a pilot project directed at children from their earliest days until the age of 16. One of the main current objectives of the Fundação COSAN is to extend its activities to the whole Group. In 2007, therefore, it opened a new educational facility in Dois Córregos which will benefit 100 children and teenagers. Thus all centers will have standardized activities in line with the Fundação COSAN model. More than offering a quality education, Fundação Cosan has been reinforced and intensified the importance of working in harmony with the family and the entire community.
