COSAN: responsible development COSAN’s main objective is to believe in the personal, professional and intellectual development, to believe in its employees’ dreams, contributing to improve education in the community where it operates, and more than that, to be motivating agent. Therefore, the development of social and environmental projects and concerned with people management have been COSAN’s continuous goal and more than that, it applies to all employees integrating COSAN community. In addition, the company also maintains the Fundação COSAN (Foundation), liable for assisting newborns, children, youngsters, adults and elderly people who receive educational supervision, tutorials, they carry out social and educational activities and learn various professional activities. COSAN also has a significant performance in Univalem, in Valparaíso, where it develops important projects. The soccer school “Bom de Bola, Bom na Escola”, concerned with education and sports, benefits approximately 245 children, between 6 and 14 years of age. Waldemar Alves day care center, a partnership with the local government assists 90 children, between 6 months and 6 years of age. In addition, the unit sponsors Univalem Choir, mostly composed of third age people. Regarding environmental preservation, COSAN believes that the solution for environmental issues of the planet is moving to a gradual replacement of mineral fuels with biofuels. Thus, Kyoto Protocol and environmental certifications, in spite of a great opposition from certain developed countries, offer growth opportunities to Brazil.
