Bulk Port Operator

Responsible for loading all COSAN’s sugar exports, COSAN Operadora Portuária S.A. is equipped with fully up-to-date facilities and equipment compatible with the most modern ports in the world, thanks to investments of US$53 million in recent years. A fully automated process and a modern online system, from production source to final shipment, are a guarantee of service excellence, underlined by the terminal’s record number of certifications: ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14000:2004, OHSAS 18001:1999 and GMP B2.

As a result, COSAN Operadora Portuária has achieved record figures: in 2007/08, it exported 3.7 million tonnes, accounting for 25% of the country’s total sugar exports. Approximately 50% of this volume was produced by the COSAN Group. The terminal has a handling capacity of 6.6 million tonnes per year of bulk solids and possesses enormous operational flexibility, enabling it to handle other types of vegetable commodities such as whole soybean, soybean bran and bulk corn, without interrupting work.

Warehousing
The static capacity of COSAN Group’s port terminal is 210 thousand tonnes of bulk grains (sugar or soybean). Warehouses are interconnected by conveyor belt systems, which enable a rapid transportation of load to be shipped. The COSAN Terminal is equipped with six discharge hoppers for the various types of transport involved, permitting the storage of around 24,000 tonnes per day. The port operation observes international quality standards viewing the optimization of important logistic factors, such as an adequate distribution of loads, the type of load to be shipped and ship movement.

Shipment
The terminal has capacity to ship 40 thousand tonnes of bulk sugar within a 24-hour period. The shipment operation is followed by trained professionals, in charge of adopting the procedures necessary to optimize ship loading.
