This unit is located in the central region of São Paulo state and combines various positive aspects: its soil is highly fertile, with a topographical projection appropriate for mechanized harvest and located nearby important highway networks. In spite of such benefits, investments in energy alternative sources researches resulted in an electricity co-generation process. Serra unit, besides becoming self-sufficient, also sells the surplus. In 2004, the unit traded approximately 27,000 MW/h, a new source of revenue to COSAN.
